Discover the ancient art of batik at our studio and workshop in Noosaville.
Batik is a traditional process of applying wax and dyes to fabric to achieve intricate and colourful patterns. The tradition of batik is particularly prevalent on the Indonesian island of Java and was handed down from generation to generation and was usually an occupation of village women.
In this 90-minute workshop, Heda will give you an introduction into batik and how to use the tools and materials. On the day, you’ll sketch, learn the traditional art of canting on fabric, also how to colour, boil, wax and finish the piece.
All materials are included in this workshop. We will be using 100% cotton mori to make our batik.
Heda Bailey of HedaBATIK, is passionate about teaching others this ancient art. She is a batik artist whose work revolves around creating batik pieces and hosting workshops and exhibitions around Australia. She proudly creates batik the traditional way using canting.
